Enjoy winter hiking at the various state parks, skiing and snowboarding at nearby resorts and plenty of sightseeing! Visit America's Stonehenge for a history lesson, or the Children's Museum for the little ones.
Welcome to New Hampshire!
New Hampshire, the Granite State, is a fun and exciting place to visit no matter what the season is. While the state is relatively small in area, the numerous outdoor activities, events and sights to see make up for it. The landscape of New Hampshire is made up of mountains within the northern part of the state, lakes in central New Hampshire, beaches to the east, Massachusetts to the south and Vermont to the west. The state is made up of seven very different regions, each as exciting as the next. These regions are the seacoast, Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee, Lakes Region, Merrimack Valley, Monadnock Region, White Mountains and Great North Wood. Each are is filled with natural beauty, cultural events and classic New England tradition.
Known as a four-season vacation getaway, there’s always something to do. Whether the mountains are covered in snow or the kids are playing at Hampton Beach, you won’t run out of things to do and sights to see here. Outdoor recreation comes alive during the winter. Take the opportunity to spend an energized day racing down ski slopes or being adventurous in the backcountry on a snowmobile. For winter activities, New Hampshire has terrain parks, snow tubing, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, sleigh rides, dog sledding and much more. When spring rolls around, it’s officially maple season. The trees are tapped and the sap runs deep. The maple season usually lasts for approximately four to six weeks, although the days and length of the sap runs depend on the weather. Maple sugaring in New Hampshire generally runs from mid-February to mid-April. During these weeks, the maple industry of New Hampshire produces close to 90,000 gallons of maple syrup! If you’re looking for a time to visit, the maple season is perfect. Not only will you experience the beauty of the snow-covered mountains, but the innkeepers will also spoil you with breakfasts smothered in this sweet local treat.
Once the ground starts to dry and the warm weather moves in, it’s time to experience a summer in New Hampshire. Summer means it’s the perfect time for family vacations, time together at the beach, canoeing on the lake or roasting marshmallows over the fire. It’s also a wonderful season for romantic getaways at historic inns and early morning hikes at one of the many state parks.
Once the leaves start to change to vibrant colors, autumn is upon us. During this time, orchards are overflowing with ripe fruit that is ready for picking. The farmer’s market takes shape and harvest time is here. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing fall day by the lake, a week of shopping or a hike in the mountains, autumn in the granite state is an experience that will last a lifetime.
Regardless of the season, New Hampshire has fun and excitement for everyone. Go to Hampton Beach for a dip or go out on one of the many lakes. Enjoy a scenic drive and discover the covered bridges and historical sights. Not only are there great outdoor activities, there are a number of museums, specialty shops, restaurants and festivals to visit as well.
